Sell Jewelry With a Story by Robin Barber
A few years ago I visited an island resort over the coastline of Florida and spent hours relating to the beach collecting beautiful shells. It’s this experience which led me to sell jewelry with a story.
Your shells were plentiful so I could collect doubles or much more of my favorites.
I was thinking about the assorted pieces of jewelry i always would make with a lot of these shells. I saw it envisioned the many charms, chains, anklet bracelets, jewels and doo dads i always could design and assemble.
I thought “I have a tale to tell with my own shells”. This is a great selling tool.
I can just imagine hearing some sort of satisfied customer whose pendant attracted attention telling about the jewelry designer and precisely how she collected shells with a famous resort area and was inspired to create this necklace with a shell that’s once the lodging home for a sea creature.
Why tell you this?
Because the necklace is now much more unique
The wearer is the biggest market of attention
Your name is going to be repeated and circulated with word-of-mouth-advertising and will draw customers to where you are to purchase momentous jewellery items from you.
Handcrafted jewelry means more for some people than just the point that it was made by a skilled artisan.
Most handcrafted art should be accompanied by an interesting story. It will sell your jewelry merchandise.
And telling the story about my Jewelry Pieces I add it in my advertising brochures.
Since you hand out your company cards and brochures tell a tale about your jewelry design or about your company. You telling an interesting and gripping story will not only help the potential customer to remember you each time that they view your sales information but will sell jewelry.
Put aside the notion that people want quick information. A wonderful and compelling story will be read or listened to its completion irrespective of its length. The customer is purchasing an artwork of beauty with a memorable tale.
A unique story about your jewellery designs will separate your creations from commercially manufactured jewelry. Mass produced commercial jewelry does not sell jewelry using a story.
Let your customers know about the drops, gem stones, tiles, and other materials which you make use of.
This will let the customer realize the worth and the uniqueness of the jewelry piece.
Sell jewelry which has a story. It is worth your time and effort to achieve successful results.

A World of Head Ornaments: Africa, Asia, Oceania, America $51.99 A passionate interest and a lifetime spent seeking out the world’s finest ethnic jewelry has contributed to making the Ghysels collection one of the premier collections of its kind in the world. Jean-Pierre and Colette Ghysels have indulged their passion indiscriminately, according as much attention to ethnographic objects as to extraordinary pieces of ethnic jewelry. They are guided by a single criterion: the quality that gives rise to beauty, a strict standard indeed, but one made possible by their longstanding familiarity with ethnic objects. A vast array of hair combs, pins, jewelry made to be woven into braids, nose rings, lip plugs, forehead ornaments and other related objects made out of the most diverse materials, many never before seen, are presented in beautifully composed photographs. The book is divided into geographical sections and includes 200 annotated photographs, a glossary, an index, maps, and a general bibliography. The author’s essay describes the uses and meaning of the objects in different cultures and emphasizes the originality of the pieces. |

A World of Necklaces: Africa, Asia, America, Oceania $85 A World of Necklaces-the fourth book in a series that also features rings, bracelets and earrings-demonstrates the importance and variety of the remarkable Ghysels collection of ethnic jewelry. The forms, colors and materials of these necklaces are astonishing, while the modernity of some pieces in the collection has not escaped the notice of contemporary jewelry designers. It is rare for jewelry to have a solely aesthetic purpose, for above all it is anchored in the social, religious and political contexts that lend it meaning. Throughout this book, the author sets out to untangle the intricacies of the way necklaces are used and what they signify. She describes the materials and draws attention to the originality of the craftsmen, who have contributed to the enrichment of a cultural heritage that has long been under threat and which this collection is helping to preserve. The book includes over 300 superb photographs, a glossary, an index, maps and a general bibliography. |

Altered Curiosities: Assemblage Techniques and Projects $22.99 Featuring techniques for assemblage and surface alterations never before seen in a mixed-media art book (kit-bashing, wiring, egg-shell texture, casting and more), Altered Curiosities offers a new twist on a hot topic.A fresh variety of projects (such as hair barrettes, jewelry, a drawer pull and a bird feeder) prove that artistic assemblage and collage styles can be expressed beyond wall art.Readers will learn a new storytelling approach to their mixed-media art. Altered Curiosities goes beyond construction techniques to help readers discover how to create a personal narrative with objects and visually tell a story, not just infuse a piece with meaning or symbolism. Two very important things make this book stand out from the crowd of other collage, mixed-media and assemblage titles: the projects (full of oddities and the unexpected) and the techniques—several of which have never been published before. A common element of Jane Wynn’s style is to find an object, break it and put it together again (sometimes more than once), and she loves using anthropomorphic associations to tell stories in her projects. Step by step, readers will learn her unique method and her sought-after techniques. Along with surface alterations (faux-aging, patinas and the use of unusual household products) Altered Curiosities teaches metal etching with rubber stamps, simple wiring to create dramatic lighting, instruction for altering simple toy figures (making two-headed animals, for instance) and more. |

Art of the Cherokee: Prehistory to the Present $2.99 This illustrated historical overview features some of the finest examples of Cherokee art in private, corporate, and museum collections throughout the world. As Susan C. Power ranges across the rich legacy of Cherokee artistic achievement from the sixteenth century to the present, she discusses baskets, masks, beaded and embroidered garments, jewelry, and paintings. Power draws on archival and scholarly sources and, when possible, the artists’ own words as she interprets these objects in terms of their design, craftsmanship, style, and most important, their function and meaning in Cherokee history and culture. In addition to tracing the development of Cherokee art, Power reveals the wide range of geographical locales from which Cherokee art has originated. These places include the Cherokee’s tribal homeland in the Southeast, the tribe’s areas of resettlement in the West, and abodes in the United States and beyond to which individuals subsequently moved. Intimately connected to the time and place of its creation, Cherokee art changed along with Cherokee social, political, and economic circumstances. The entry of European explorers into the Southeast, the Trail of Tears, the American Civil War, and the signing of treaties with the U.S. government are among the transforming events in Cherokee art history that Power discusses. In the twentieth century, as Cherokee artists joined the mainstream art world, they helped shape the Native American Fine Art Movement. Today, Cherokee artists continue to create in an artistic voice that is uniquely Cherokee–a voice both traditional and contemporary. |

CROSS CENTERED $9.99 The cross is a symbol that is easily recognize and widely accepted as the emblem of Christianity. The sheer beauty of a well-crafted cross invites one to look and enjoy. Its design is well suited for works of art on canvas, in woodwork and jewelry. Many stage plays and Hollywood movies have used the symbol of the cross in its productions. They draw well-meaning folk together and they drive the vampires away. It is indeed a powerful symbol. The author wishes to tap into the power of the cross in this book. However, he focuses, not on the power that drives away, but on the power that unifies. Many of us have seen the images of our Lord as He hung on the cross. It was a bloody and gory sight. Even more spectacular than the gore, is the beauty of the cross. See the loveliness of an unselfish and loving God. See how He suffered it all to reunite mankind with his creator. There is much for us to learn there. Our lives, families, our churches would be better off if we endeavored to live Cross-Centered lives. |

Composing a Further Life: The Age of Active Wisdom $13.99 From the acclaimed author of Composing a Life comes an inspiring exploration of a new stage of the life cycle, “Adulthood II,” created by unprecedented levels of health, energy, time, and resources—-of which we have barely begun to be fully conscious.Mary Catherine Bateson sees aging today as an “improvisational art form calling for imagination and willingness to learn,” and in this ardent, affirming study, she relates the experiences of men and women—-herself included—-who, upon entering this second adulthood, have found new meaning and new ways to contribute, composing their lives in new patterns.Among the people Bateson engages in open-ended, in-depth conversations are a retired Maine boatyard worker who has become a silversmith and maker of fine jewelry; an African American woman who explores the importance of grandmothering; two gay men finding contentment in mutual caring; the retired dean of a cathedral in New York City who exemplifies how… |
